Ruipu Hu is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Maryland’s College of Information, where he works with Dr. Amanda Lazar in The Health Aging and Technology (THAT) Lab and is a part of the Human-Computer Interaction lab (HCIL). His research sits in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), draws on Computer-Supported Cooperative Work (CSCW) and contributes to designing with older adults and people with cognitive impairments. He focuses on understanding how videoconferencing technology can serve as meaningful additions to older adults’ lives as they navigate changes in aging and cognitive abilities. Prior to his PhD, he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Virginia Tech, where he worked with Dr. Sang Won Lee on designing interactive systems to help individuals with limited digital literacy engage in online activities.
