Yeweon Kim (Ph.D. in Communication, UC Santa Barbara) is a scholar specializing in computer-mediated communication (CMC) and information science. She has been a postdoctoral researcher at the UMD College of Information since January 2024, where she has contributed to the statewide digital literacy project Marylanders Online and is currently teaching courses (e.g., Information User Needs and Assessment, Introduction to Information Science).
Her research focuses on the individual and collective concerns surrounding information and communication technologies (ICTs), particularly in the areas of social interaction, information behavior, and civic engagement in mediated public life. She explores topics such as digital empowerment and ethics, key areas essential for a thriving digital civil society. Her empirical research uses both quantitative and qualitative methods, drawing insights from communication, information science, and media psychology. Additionally, she has been involved in regional initiatives advocating for digitally underserved communities.
Her work has been published in leading journals such as Computers in Human Behavior, New Media & Society, Policy & Internet, and Journal of Media Psychology.
