Yeweon Kim (Ph.D. in Communication, UC Santa Barbara) is a scholar specializing in computer-mediated communication (CMC). She joined the UMD College of Information as a postdoctoral researcher in January 2024, where she contributed to the Marylanders Online project. She is also currently teaching courses in Information User Needs and Assessment and Introduction to Information Science. Her research focuses on the individual and collective concerns surrounding information and communication technologies (ICTs), particularly in the domains of social interaction, information acquisition, and civic engagement in public life. She explores topics such as digital empowerment, equity, and ethics. Dr. Kim conducts empirical research using a variety of quantitative and mixed methods and is actively involved in community-driven initiatives that advocate for digitally marginalized groups. Her work has been published in leading journals such as Computers in Human Behavior, New Media & Society, Policy & Internet, and the Journal of Media Psychology, among others.
