UMD Info Challenge Initiative
Each year, in February/March, the University of Maryland (UMD) Info Challenge Initiative brings together college students from across across UMD and the State of Maryland to solve real-world data, design, security, and project management challenges. The UMD College of Information (INFO) leads the organization of this initiative in partnership with the U.S. Naval Academy and other units across UMD.
The Info Challenge Initiative also brings together faculty, staff, alumni, and industry partners to mentor and connect with students. Industry partners, among other benefits, receive fresh perspectives from college students on their organizations’ real information and data challenges.
During the one-week free event, typically spanning the last week of February into the first week of March, participating students solve information challenges provided by industry partners who also serve as mentors and judges. This is an opportunity for students to gain valuable team-building skills, create friendships, boost their resumes, win prizes, and network with top companies.
No prior data experience is needed! Participants come from programs ranging from the arts and humanities to business to life sciences.
