The University of Maryland College of Information Studies (UMD iSchool) is excited to announce our newest faculty hires, who each bring to the table an impressive repertoire of passions, skills, and research interests. Their contributions to our college’s research and academics will help us to continue expanding the frontiers of how people access and use information and technology in an evolving world. The UMD iSchool is a renowned public research institution that offers prestigious academic programs in the information science field, ranked #8 in the USA.
Katrina Fenlon, Assistant Professor
Katrina joins the iSchool after completing her PhD at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her research investigates the development, representation, use, and preservation of digital collections and archives. She studies the social and technical challenges confronting the long-term management, sustainability, and preservation of digital collections.
Ana Ndumu, Postdoc
Coming to UMD directly from her PhD program at Florida State University, Ana looks to foster social change through evidence-based information services. She studies the ways in which cultural heritage impacts information behavior, focusing specifically in her dissertation on the information worlds of African, Afro-Caribbean, and Afro-Latino immigrants living in the US. Ana will become an Assistant Professor the fall of 2019 semester.
Daniel Greene, Assistant Professor
Coming to UMD from a postdoctoral research appointment with the Social Media Collective at Microsoft Research New England, Daniel focuses on technologies behind the future of work, the values built into them, and the institutions that dictate who is included in—or excluded from—that future.
David Loshin, Lecturer and MIM Director
Recognized worldwide as an information management industry thought leader, David has popularized best practices for business intelligence, data governance, performance computing, master data management, predictive analytics, and data quality. David is a monthly columnist for TechTarget and frequent presenter at industry events. He has published several books and dozens of white papers on practical issues for information management.
Donal Heidenblad, Lecturer
Donal joined the UMD iSchool in 2012 as a PhD student and has recently accepted the position of lecturer. His research and expertise focuses on ethics and values, bias and equality, community discourse, and software development communities. Donal received his M.S in Information systems from UMBC in 2009.
Timothy Richards, Lecturer
Timothy comes to the iSchool with more than eleven years of experience in coordinating student programs, serving as a faculty member, and advising capstone projects. He is an interdisciplinary researcher with a background in leadership studies, human-computer interaction, management, and computer science. His research focuses on privacy as it relates to the Internet, technology, and US elections.
