The emerging connected mobility ecosystem empowers individual travelers to make smarter activity, mode, and route choices while improving availability and access to a wider range of transportation choices. Many startups have emerged to introduce new products and services aimed at improving mobility. Unfortunately, the race to profitability has left behind a trail of adverse unintended consequences related to congestion, safety, equity, and environment. This presentation examines how the emergence of connected mobility has challenged some of the pre-existing norms and expectations and identifies opportunities for transportation stakeholders to ensure the benefits and interests of society at large are being protected.
