Talk Abstract:
The convergence of smart information and communications technology with innovations in vehicle and transportation technology is disrupting personal mobility. The emerging connected mobility ecosystem empowers individual travelers to make smarter activity, mode, and route choices while improving availability and access to a wider range of transportation choices. Many startups have emerged to introduce new products and services aimed at improving mobility. Unfortunately, the race to profitability has left behind a trail of adverse unintended consequences related to congestion, safety, equity, and environment. This presentation examines how the emergence of connected mobility has challenged some of the pre-existing norms and expectations and identifies opportunities for transportation stakeholders to ensure the benefits and interests of society at large are being protected.
