UMD Networking Event

This fall 2024, the College of Information (INFO) at the University of Maryland is kicking off a 2024 celebration of its new name, the “College of Information,” which reflects the growing breadth of the college’s impact in research and education. And, we hope you’ll get involved!

EVENTS

The INFO College hosts events throughout the academic year that range from on-campus celebrations to virtual research talks. There are opportunities for students, faculty, researchers, industry professionals, and more to get involved. View upcoming events here, such as INFO’s September 20th Family Weekend, October 18th Homecoming Celebration, and October 30th Dean’s Lecture with Renée DiResta.

INDUSTRY PARTNERS

Industry partners play an integral role at the INFO College. From providing Capstone projects where students complete projects for organizations while gaining real world experience—to companies hosting networking and recruitment events. INFO College students and faculty provide tangible support in solving organizations’ toughest information challenges and provide opportunities for organizations to collaborate in curriculum and learning experiences for students, helping to shape the future of education in the field. Partners such as EY, Accenture, Bozzuto, the USDA, and more are helping INFO to shape the future of information science. Learn more about becoming a partner.

ADJUNCT LECTURERS

The INFO College values bringing real-world industry experts in to help shape the future generation of information scientists and leaders. Adjunct faculty come to the INFO College from MedStar Health, IBM, the Library of Congress, the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, the U.S. Department of Defense, the Office of Naval Intelligence, Cisco, Microsoft, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and more. If you are working in the field of information science, consider joining the INFO College as an adjunct lecturer.

DONORS

The future of information is happening now. At the INFO College, faculty, staff, and students are exploring how information profoundly touches lives: in government, education, health care, employment, and more. Now more than ever, gifts are vital to the INFO College’s ability to remain a leader in conducting groundbreaking research and training the next generation of information professionals. Gifts to scholarships provide life changing opportunities to students. There are also opportunities to support research directly through gifts. And, we’re excited to provide a new giving opportunity (and naming opportunity)—as the INFO College builds a new hub for information and tech driven students at UMD, the INFO Commons, made up of labs, gathering spaces, and more.

MENTOR STUDENTS (FOR INFO ALUMNI)

Terrapins Connect is a UMD’s virtual platform that connects Terps from across the world with one another for mentoring, networking, and professional opportunities. Join Terrapins Connect to help guide INFO students and provide support to them as they navigate education and careers in the information science field.

The INFO College provides opportunities for current students to get involved in leadership roles through the Graduate Student Advisory Council (connect with Jeff Waters) or the undergraduate Dean’s Student Advisory Council (connect with Wayne Lutters). Also, in addition to over 600 student organizations at UMD, their are a variety of student organizations at INFO to explore.
