Schedule An Appointment

The Counseling Center has collaborated with INFO College to provide a counselor right in the College of Information. Monique McIntyre is a licensed Counseling Center clinician who works exclusively with INFO students. INFO’s Embedded Counselor provides the following services:

  • Mental health appointments for INFO students
  • Consultation with INFO faculty and staff who are concerned about a student’s mental health
  • Outreach programming tailored to the needs of the College of Information

What You Need to Know:

Why does INFO have an Embedded Counselor?

By placing counselors onsite, the Counseling Center makes it easier for INFO students to get mental health services, and offers more direct access for faculty and staff to consult with a mental health professional about how to best support students. Additionally, being embedded in the College of Information provides the context needed to tailor services and programs to the unique needs of INFO students.

How do I schedule an appointment with the Embedded Counselor?

To schedule a clinical appointment with Monique, you can use the online scheduling system or contact her via email at mmcinty2@umd.edu to schedule.

Can I drop-in to meet with Monique if I need support now?

Monique is not currently available for unscheduled sessions with students. Urgent services are available to any UMD students in person at the Shoemaker Building during business hours or by phone at (301) 314-7651 outside of business hours.

Are my visits confidential?

Your visits with your Embedded Counselor and any other Counseling Center staff are confidential. Your counselor will NOT share information about you with your program’s faculty, staff, or anyone else.

How much does it cost to meet with the Embedded Counselor?

Just like with all Counseling Center services, meeting with the Embedded Counselor is free of charge.

If I am an INFO student and I want mental health services, am I required to meet with the Embedded Counselor?

Just because you are an INFO student does not mean that your appointment has to be with your Embedded Counselor. Additional Counseling Center services and providers are available for any UMD students at the Shoemaker Building.

How does the Embedded Counselor assist INFO faculty and staff?

The Embedded Counselor is available to consult with INFO faculty and staff regarding any concerns they may have about a student’s mental health and how to best support the student. The Embedded Counselor may also provide general guidance on best practices for bolstering student mental health and wellbeing within the College of Information.

Does the Embedded Counselor provide mental health programming for INFO?

Yes! Monique provides outreach programming focused on mental health education and awareness tailored to INFO College. Programs are available for student groups, classes, program departments, and other groups of faculty or staff by request. Regardless of the audience, the focus of this programming will be on improving student mental health and wellbeing. To request an outreach program, email Monique at  or submit a Counseling Center outreach request.

Graphic from the University of Maryland Counseling Center titled “Start the Semester Strong.” The infographic shows illustrated students flexing their arms in confident poses around four tips: Get Organized & Create Balance – Sit down with course syllabi, mark important dates, block out study and assignment time, and schedule time for enjoyment. Start Off With Good Habits – Eat nourishing food regularly, get good sleep, and move your body. Be Proactive & Preventative – Talk to professors early, register for accommodations, or visit the Counseling Center. It’s easier to stay ahead than to catch up. Find Community – Join clubs, organizations, sports teams, or fitness classes to stay connected, give and receive support, and have fun.
