The Bachelor of Science in Information Science (InfoSci) degree program at The Universities at Shady Grove campus in Montgomery County is designed for transfer students who have completed their associate’s degree or equivalent. The InfoSci Shady Grove program teaches students skills in technical areas such as database design, information architecture, web/mobile development, data analytics, and cybersecurity alongside areas of the social sciences, leadership, and the humanities – addressing the growing and unique need for information professionals who understand complex social and organizational issues.

This innovative curriculum blends theory, practical skills, and hands-on learning, preparing our graduates to apply their skills directly and immediately in their careers. Our students work on projects with the UMD INFO College’s 400+ top industry partners and have opportunities for hands-on learning at the college’s world-renowned research centers and labs.

Curriculum

The Bachelor of Science in Information Science (InfoSci) at The Universities at Shady Grove is for transfer students with 60 credits or an Associate’s degree in a related field. Students complete the program in four semesters, taking five 3-credit courses per semester, with a pre-set schedule to ensure timely graduation.

Benchmark Courses set students up for success in the program and create foundational knowledge. Courses include Precalculus, Introduction to Psychology, Elementary Statistics and Probability, and more.

Program Courses allow students to become experts in the field, with courses like Information Organization, Database Design and Modeling, Dynamic Web Applications, and Advanced Data Science.

Tuition/Costs

Tuition

  • In-State (Maryland resident) tuition is $5,904.50 per semester for full-time undergraduate students.
  • Out-of-State (Non-Resident) tuition is $20,593.00 per semester for Non-Resident full-time undergraduate students.
  • The Mandatory fees are a flat rate of $397.00 for 1-8 credit hours and $861.00 for 9+ credit hours.

Financial Aid

The UMD INFO College provides financial aid to select current students who demonstrate academic excellence. Students may also reduce their tuition costs by serving as a TA or GA at UMD, but please note that these positions are competitive. There are also additional sources of financial aid offered by the University and by outside sources.
