Discover Your Path: iSchool Career Panel
Whether you are a senior preparing for graduation, a first-year student trying to understand your major, or an alumnus considering a career change, this event is for you!
On Wednesday, March 31, from 5 – 6 PM (EST), the iSchool Alumni Network Board will host a panel of information science professionals offering perspectives from academia and industry.
These panelists will provide an overview of their career paths, insight on what you can do with a major in this area, how to set yourself apart from others who want the same job, and more! You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions, for example what skills are needed to stand out when applying and how to succeed in these careers.
This event will be co-moderated by iSchool alumna Suzy Wilson, MLIS ’18, and iSchool undergraduate student, Kati Ilieva, BSIS ’21.
In the registration, you can choose one or more of the following topics that you’re interested in learning about:

PANELISTS
Dr. Ursula Gorham
Ursula Gorham is a Senior Lecturer in the College of Information Studies at the University of Maryland, College Park (the iSchool). She currently serves as the Director of the Master of Library and Information Science program in the iSchool. She is admitted to practice law in Maryland and previously served as a law clerk in Maryland appellate and federal bankruptcy courts. Dr. Gorham’s research and teaching reflect her passion for information literacy, particularly within the realm of legal and government information. She is an alumna of the M.L.S and Ph.D. program at the iSchool.
Dr. Bill Kules
Bill Kules is the Principal Lecturer and Director of the iSchool’s Master of Science in Human-Computer Interaction (HCIM). He also serves as the Director of the iSchool iConsultancy Experiential Learning Program where he partners with industry, government, and communities to execute technology-based projects led by iSchool students. Bill worked in the software industry for 20 years, with a focus on human-computer interaction, before moving to academia. He holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Maryland and B.S. in Physics and Mathematics from Colby College.
Dr. Katy Lawley
Katy Lawley is a Senior Lecturer in the iSchool as well as the iSchool’s Career Services Liaison. In her career services capacity, she offers career consultations with iSchool students and alumni, and she promotes the events and services of the University Career Center. An alumna of the iSchool’s M.L.S. and Ph.D. programs, Katy has previously worked as a librarian, a freelance consultant, and a Denny’s hostess.
Josh Rattan
Josh Rattan is a Partner in PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Information Governance practice, assisting clients to define and execute transformational programs that enhance how organizations develop knowledge strategies and manage and protect their information. Josh works with corporate clients to implement information management programs, processes, and enabling technologies. Josh’s educational background includes an M.B.A. from the University of Maryland and B.S. in Computer Science from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
