Amir Ghaemi is an Affiliate Faculty member at the University of Maryland College of Information, where he teaches INST366: Privacy, Security and Ethics for Big Data. He is also an Adjunct Professor with the Institute for Systems Research, teaching graduate courses in human factors and systems engineering.
Professionally, Amir serves as a Senior Systems Software Engineer and Principal Investigator at the Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS), where he leads research and development efforts at the intersection of artificial intelligence, human-centered computing, and national security.
His work focuses on generative AI, human-AI interaction, systems engineering, software development, and the ethical implications of emerging technologies. Amir has contributed to open-source software through the Apache Software Foundation, co-authored a book on MATLAB, and published research on human-AI interaction measurement. He is passionate about preparing students to design, evaluate, and deploy data-driven technologies that are secure, ethical, and centered on human needs.
