The Glenstone Museum (external link, opens in a new tab) in Potomac, Maryland is offering a tour to MLIS students on Saturday, 4/25. The proposed itinerary is located on the survey and includes self-guided exploration of the galleries/grounds, a guided tour of the Archives with UMD alum and Glenstone’s archivist, Nathan Avant, and an optional grounds tour afterwards. The archives tour will go over the storage area, Nathan will bring out and discuss some interesting records, as well as demo their internal access systems.
If you went on a version of this tour to Glenstone last year, please consider skipping this one to let first-timers join. Thank you for this consideration!
Note that this tour is capped to 25 students and registration is on a first come, first served basis. There will be a waiting list since it’s only a small group allowed to go. If you register but in the coming days find you cannot make it, I ask that you reach out to me [Joseph Sherren] (jsherren@umd.edu) so I can add the person at the top of the waiting list to the final sign up.
There is a deadline to sign up: Monday, 4/20 at 4pm. Note that students are responsible for getting to the site on their own but directions can be found on their website here (external link, opens in a new tab) under the “Getting Here” tab.
There is public transit access as well: visitors can take the red line to Rockville Metro Station and take the 301 RideOn bus, which goes directly to Glenstone’s Arrival Hall.
