You are invited to participate virtually in the Smart Cities Roundtable on Tuesday, March 4 from 2-3:30 PM by Zoom. The National League of Cities and UMD’s AIM will present on artificial intelligence. Smart Cities is a joint initiative between INFO and MPP via the National Center for Smart Growth.

Dr. Sheena Erete
Part 1: Dr. Sheena Erete, AIM Associate Director of Research & Associate Professor in the College of Information
Dr. Erete will provide an overview of AIM, the Artificial Intelligence Interdisciplinary Institute at Maryland. Established April 2024, AIM is developing the next generation of artificial intelligence education, technology and leaders through interdisciplinary research that focuses on the responsible and ethical use of AI.
The inaugural AIM research seed award program round (closed 2/17/2025) included a funding track for Community-Based Grants to support AI projects that prioritize and engage with Maryland-area communities.

Christopher Jordan
Part 2: Christopher Jordan, Senior Specialist in Urban Innovation at the National League of Cities (NLC)
Mr. Jordan will provide an overview of the NLC Artificial Intelligence in Local Government, 2024 Survey Results Summary Report and his work on artificial intelligence and supporting cities in understanding and implementing responsible AI policies.
Through research, policy guidance, and direct engagement with municipal leaders, he helps cities consider how AI might enhance public services, improve operations, and ensure ethical and equitable outcomes in their communities.
