Michael Schechter (UMCP ’01)
Michael Schechter (UMCP ’01) is a Vice President at Microsoft, where he leads the engineering and product teams behind Bing’s global growth strategy. Over his 25 years at Microsoft, he has helped shape the future of search and AI, playing a leadership role in launching both Bing and Microsoft’s original Copilot (Bing Chat). Focused on continuous innovation and fostering greater competition in web search, Michael has a unique perspective on how search has evolved and where it is headed.
ABSTRACT:
Web search has been a constant companion of the internet age, but both the technology and the expectations surrounding it have evolved dramatically over the years. In this talk, Michael will trace the journey from the earliest days of indexing and ranking to today’s rich, AI-driven experiences. He will explore how user expectations have grown alongside these advancements, how new AI technologies are reshaping search behaviors, and how Bing is adapting to meet these emerging needs. Finally, he will look ahead to what the future may hold for the way we find, interact with, and trust information.
