Please mark your calendar! You’re invited to join the University of Maryland College of Information (INFO) for the Spring 2025 Dean’s Lecture event, featuring Dr. Colleen Shogan, the first and only woman appointed as Archivist of the United States.

All UMD faculty, staff, students, alumni, friends, and members of the community are welcome to attend this free, in-person event. A complimentary reception will begin in ESJ 0202 at 4:00 PM, followed by the discussion at 5:00 PM. We hope to see you there!

Speaker Bio:
Dr. Colleen Shogan is the author of Moral Rhetoric of American Presidents, a book on the rhetorical presidency. Shogan served in several leadership roles for the Library of Congress from 2016 to 2020, including assistant deputy for collections and deputy director of the Congressional Research Service. Shogan also worked as the vice chair of the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission and taught as an adjunct professor in the government department at Georgetown University. On August 13, 2022, President Joe Biden nominated Shogan to be 11th Archivist of the United States. Dr. Shogan served in this role from May 17, 2023, until her dismissal on February 7, 2025. Dr. Shogan is the first woman, and only woman to date, appointed as Archivist of the United States.
