Description:

The annual HCIL symposium brings together top HCI thinkers and influencers from academia and industry for presentations on innovative research on UX, accessibility, and other HCI topics; demonstrations of new technologies; and discussions by key leaders in the HCI field. Join us on May 29, 2025, as we celebrate 42 years of groundbreaking HCI research.

In this full-day event, we’ll hear from faculty and students about ongoing research in human-centered AI, data visualization, social computing, fabrication, accessibility, health informatics, usable privacy and security, and more.

About the HCIL:

Human Computer Interaction Lab LogoThe Human-Computer Interaction Lab (HCIL), launched in 1983 at the University of Maryland, has a rich history of transforming the experience people have with new technologies. From understanding user needs to developing and evaluating these technologies, the lab’s faculty, staff, and students have been leading HCI research for more than 40 years. HCIL is jointly supported by the College of Information Studies (INFO) and the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies (UMIACS). It currently includes more than 80 faculty and students from across campus.
