Americana 2015: Collections of Curiosity on March 2

Americana is the Student Archivists at Maryland (SAM) annual symposium that brings archives professionals back to campus to speak to UMD iSchool students, alumni, and faculty about their experiences in the field.

To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the University of Maryland's College of Information Studies, the theme of this year's event is "Collections of Curiosity: Showcasing the Special Collections at the University of Maryland."

In addition, we will be presenting our Distinguished Archives Alumni Award to Rita M. Cacas, MLS '02, former archivist at the National Archives, current Director of the Rita M. Cacas Foundation, Inc. She will give a brief talk discussing her recent materials donated to the Library's "Rita M. Cacas Filipino American Archive."

The event will begin with a reception from 6:00-6:30, during which light refreshments and hors d'oeuvres will be served. We will have music playing from the Special Collections in Performing Arts as well! The presentation will begin at 6:30, followed by a question-and-answer session.
