Advancing Research at iConference 2018: A Reflection by iSchool Undergrad Jasmine Sullivan

I am Jasmine Sullivan an Information Science and Pre-Law major. This past week, I had the opportunity to present research with three collaborators at Sheffield, England. I worked with Josue Figueroa (Clemson University), Vincent Grimaldi (Suffolk University), and Bryan Dosono (Syracuse University). We presented the following poster, “Finding A Future Beyond The Field; Exploring ICT-Mediated Practices Of Student Athletes” at iConference 2018. I am grateful to be fully funded by the University Of Maryland’s Information Science Department. If it were not by the unwavering support I received through this department and its dean, I would had never had the opportunity to present my research abroad in my first academic conference. I am so thankful and overjoyed that I received this once in a lifetime opportunity. I was able to engage in interesting discussions, receive feedback on my research project, and learn what other iSchools across the world are doing to advance the field of information science. For any undergraduates seeking opportunities to enrich their engagement beyond the classroom, it is never too early to start researching the unknown.
