Dr. Philip Piety, Senior Lecturer at the University of Maryland (UMD) College of Information Studies, works at the intersection of education and information systems. Dr. Piety’s consulting and professional work in organizational technology and educational data use has spanned several industries, including health care, government, and education. His clients have included Fortune 500 companies such as Oracle, Cisco, and IBM.
Dr. Piety is also a lifelong learner with a passion for sharing his knowledge through teaching. His teaching style emphasizes projects and team work to help prepare students for career success. Prior to teaching courses at the UMD College of Information Studies, Dr. Piety taught at the UMD Robert H. Smith Business School and the Johns Hopkins School of Education.
Dr. Piety is the author of “Assessing the Educational Data Movement” published by Teachers College Press. He is currently working on a textbook on educational data and is active in the Education Data Sciences community.
