Seeking outstanding UMD College of Information Studies undergraduates to mentor high school students during the Information Challenge Summer Camps!

Info Challenge Initiative (ICI) Lead Interns: October 2022 – August 2023 (Applications Now Closed)

ICI Lead Intern Pay & Responsibilities

$18 per/hour

October 2022 – May 2023, you will be responsible for:

⇒ Collecting climate change datasets
⇒ Assisting with the recruiting and interviewing of Info Challenge Summer Camp Lead Interns
⇒ Supporting the high school camper registration process

June 2023 – August 2023, you will be responsible for:

Working with up to 3 groups of high school campers as they work through their chosen data analysis problem
⇒ Guiding teams as they review their projects to understand the problem statement, create a process plan, and help them stay on track during the week
⇒ Leading the campus activities for the campers
⇒ Teaching data analysis lessons during the camp

ICI Lead Intern Schedule

Oct 2022 – May 2023 | 5 hours/week

May – Aug 2023 | 40 hours/week
⇒ May 30 – June 9, 2023 | Onboarding and Compliance Trainings | UMD Campus

ICI Lead Intern Requirements & Application

Apply by October 2, 2022 | Acceptance Notification October 14, 2022

Requirements:

⇒ Must Commit to both the ICI Lead Intern position, from Oct 2022 – Aug 2023
⇒ Must be a University of Maryland, College of Information Studies undergraduate student
⇒ Must possess a
B- or higher by the end of Spring 2023 Semester in INST311 and INST314
⇒ Must have a basic understanding of a full Data Analysis Project. (Campers will be working with Tableau. ICSC23 Interns do not need to be Tableau savvy, however they need to have a strong understanding of how to work through a data analysis problem, and express the results in an interesting way.)
⇒ Must complete the UMD Summer Camp Compliance Training in June 2023. ICI will cover all costs and scheduling of all 3 requirements: CPR and First Aid training; Medical Application Training; Complete a Background Check

ICSC23 Intern Pay & Responsibilities

$16 per/hour

June 2023 – August 2023, you will be responsible for:

⇒ Working with up to 4 groups of high school campers as they work through their chosen data analysis problem
⇒ Guiding teams as they review work to understand the problem statement, create a process plan, and help them stay on track during the week
⇒ Assisting with on-campus activities for the campers
⇒ Supporting data analysis lessons during the camp

May – Aug 2023 | 40 hours/week
