Got Skills

The University of Maryland iSchool Alumni chapter has done it again!  On Thursday, June 5th, the chapter hosted an insightful evening discussion titled "Got skills? Future Skills Needed for Librarians".  The event was held in the McKeldin Library and drew close to 50 attendees comprised of UMD students, alum and friends of UMD.  Maureen Sullivan, alum and past president of the American Library Association, was the moderator along with panelists Skip Auld (Executive Director, Anne Arundel County PublicLibrary), Andrea Christman (Supervisor, MCPS School Library Media Program ), Kathel Dunn (Associate Fellowship Coordinator, National Library of Medicine), Jennifer Manning (Information Research Specialist, Congressional Research Service, Library of Congress)  and Larry Wilt (Director, University of Maryland, Baltimore County).   Here’s a link to the program. The panelists shared great advice from their advanced knowledge and experience.  They also provided tips on interviewing and conveyed any current employment opportunities at their work locations. The audience was very attentive and engaged with thought-provoking questions.  Following the program, many stayed for further discussion and networking with the panelists and board members.  Attendees commented, "this was extremely helpful and we appreciate the information. Please have more events like this. Can the chapter have an event on 'how to do presentations'?"  Some even chose to get involved by joining iSchool Alumni chapter committees!  The chapter board will be discussing future iSchool Alumni programs and events during their upcoming board retreat in July.  Stay tuned!
