WELCOME TO the College of Information Studies
Orientation for degree students is held twice annually, in late April and again later in the summer. It is your first opportunity to meet the faculty and staff, as well as to register and meet your advisor. Although attending orientation is not mandatory, it is strongly recommended.

ADVISING
Advisors must approve course selection for registration each semester. Before meeting with your advisor, to facilitate advising, study the Career Course Plans for preliminary guidance in selecting possible courses for your degree program. Check course offerings for the upcoming semester, consult your advisor, and select your courses. You must submit a course approval form signed by your advisor to the Student Services Office prior to your scheduled registration time.

REGISTRATION
Detailed registration information and forms can be found in the Registration section. Registration via Testudo requires permission of the advisor and the College (through the Student Services Office). The permission of both yields an "electronic stamp" enabling you to formally register with the University when the registration period commences.

ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES, HORNBAKE LIBRARY, FOURTH FLOOR

The Student Services Office handles most of the College's student-related administrative issues, including admissions, registration, course scheduling, assistantships, and any financial aid that is not handled by the University's Financial Aid Office. Mailboxes for graduate assistants and doctoral students are located in the Student Services Office.

The Dean's Office handles the College's faculty-related administrative issues. It is also where faculty and staff mailboxes are located. These mailboxes can be used to deliver assignments, notes, and other materials to faculty and staff. Office room numbers, phone numbers and e-mail addresses for faculty and staff are included in the iSchool Student Handbooks and the web directory.

MAILBOXES
Each iSchool Student is assigned a mailbox located between rooms 0109 and 0105 on the ground floor of the classroom side of the Hornbake Building. Lists of students and their mailbox numbers are posted outside the Student Services Offices, as well as next to the mailboxes. Mailboxes are used for a variety of purposes, including distributing general information flyers, returning assignments, and leaving notes for students.

LOCKERS
Lockers are located on the second floor of the classroom side of the Hornbake Building. Information Studies degree students may sign up for a locker in the Student Services Office for a one-time locker fee of $10. The fee reserves your locker for your entire tenure in the degree program.

UNIVERSITY HEALTH CENTER
The University Health Center offers health and dental services, as well as a pharmacy. A $10 co-pay is charged to your student account for each visit. All students must provide proof of immunization dates for Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (M.M.R.) and Tetanus/Diptheria. International students must also document a negative Tuberculosis (T.B.) test or chest X-Ray within the past 12 months.

You may register for your first semester at the University prior to providing your immunization records, but your registration for subsequent semesters will be blocked until proof of immunization is provided.

Acceptable proofs of vaccination include a copy of your high school immunization record, medical records from your personal physician, an international certificate of vaccination (if it documents all of the necessary immunizations and the dates on which they were received), or proof of current or previous active duty in the U.S. military.

Students born after 1956 must document the following:

  • Two (2) immunizations against measles (rubeola) after 12 months of age (the first dose must have been received after 1968);
  • Immunization against mumps after 12 months of age;
  • Immunization against rubella after 12 months of age; and
  • Immunization against tetanus/diphtheria within the past 10 years.

Additional information about University immunization requirements is available from the University Health Center.
