General Information about WISE

WISE logoChristy Moyer, the WISE contact at the iSchool, will post an announcement to the iSchool Announcements email list in advance of each semester with general information about the classes approved for iSchool Students.

Additional announcements will be made if other courses are approved later. Details about the courses will be listed on the WISE website.

Steps to register for a WISE course

A limited number of spaces are available to all WISE students from more than 15 participating schools. You may only take one WISE course in a semester. Registration is not complete until all steps have been followed in order.

  1. You may request enrollment in a WISE course on the WISE website. Because the administrative burden for WISE courses involves three different schools, we ask that you consider your request carefully and make it only after consulting with your advisor. You can make more than one request; however, you may only take ONE course.
  2. Contact Christy Moyer, at cmoyer@umd.edu, to advise her that you have requested enrollment. Include your full name, the name of your advisor, the number and name of the course requested, and your e-mail address. If you have requested enrollment in more than one course, identify your choices in order of preference.
  3. Ask your advisor to forward his or her approval to Christy Moyer who will confirm to the WISE Program Coordinator, that you have permission to register.
  4. You will be required to confirm in writing (e-mail) to  the WISE Coordinator that you understand and agree to the parameters of the particular course (times/days; synchronous/asynchronous; residency or not, etc).
  5. You will be informed if and when your place in the course has been confirmed.
  6. When you are officially registered for the Information Studies course, Christy Moyer will confirm the registration to the WISE Program Coordinator. Registration is now finalized.

You will be contacted by either the WISE coordinator or WISE course instructor with details on accessing the course. Pay attention to the dates of the courses as not all schools in the WISE consortium have the same calendar. If you have not received information a few days before the course begins, contact Christy Moyer via e-mail at cmoyer@umd.edu.
