College Park, MD (4/25/08)
Maryland’s iSchool announced today the expansion of its highly regarded Master of Library Science (MLS) degree program to the Universities at Shady Grove in Fall 2008. Diane Barlow, Associate Dean of the iSchool, noted that planning began almost two years ago, and thanked Montgomery County Public Schools and the Montgomery County Public Libraries for their support as strategic partners.
Initially the program will offer specializations in school library media and public librarianship with a focus on children’s and youth services. The MLS program and all its concentrations and specializations will continue to be offered at the College Park campus. The MLS program is fully accredited by the American Library Association (ALA); the school library media program also is accredited by NCATE.
The MLS at Shady Grove expands opportunities for students for whom the Rockville, MD location is highly desirable. “The iSchool is very excited to extend our program to Shady Grove and to make it more accessible to individuals in the region. I believe that students will be delighted with the facilities,” stated Ann Carlson Weeks, Coordinator of School Library Media specialization.
The Universities at Shady Grove offer more than 60 undergraduate and graduate degree programs from nine respected institutions within the University System of Maryland at one central location in Montgomery County. USG provides daytime, part- and full-time, evening and weekend programs to meet the needs of its students.
