About the Author
Jenny
Preece is Dean of The
College of Information Studies and a Professor at
University of Maryland
College Park . She researchers and teaches courses
about online communities, human-computer interaction
and usability. Jenny also worked in distance education
at the British Open University for fifteen years. During
that time she developed multi-media courses and authored
or edited over 45 learning texts on information systems,
computing, human-computer interaction and education.
She chaired the first distance education masters course
in human-computer interaction. She is an author of a
leading text on human-computer interaction and numerous
other publications. She is currently co-authoring an
introductory text on human-computer interaction with
Yvonne Rogers and Helen Sharp, entitled 'Interaction
Design', which will be Published by John Wiley & Sons
in 2001.
Jenny was born on Vancouver Island in British Columbia,
Canada but has lived most of her life in England. She
now lives in Washington DC, with her partner Ben. She
misses London but likes the wide-open spaces of the
US and visiting New York City. Jenny enjoys biking,
gardening, skiing, baking bread and drinking good wine,
when she's not working.
Jenny is strong admirer of Marc Kostabi's art and she
has visited Kostabi World in New York. Jenny thanks
Marc and his brother Paul for allowing her to include
Marc's pictures in her book.
