Thompson Reuters released the 2008 journal impact factor data, and Government Information Quarterly (GIQ), edited by Professor John Carlo Bertot, climbed to an impact factor of 1.910 with a five-year impact factor of 1.753. The impact factor more than doubled from .810 last year. When compared to the Information Science and Library Science suite of journals in which GIQ is grouped, this places GIQ right below the Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology (1.954), and well above Library and Information Science Research (1.226) and other top journals in the field. This marks a substantial jump in impact factor, but continues an upward trend over the last several years. The impact factor is a measure of journal article citations, indicating the increased readership and value of GIQ’s content.
Having served as editor since 2000, Bertot noted “it is a pleasure to guide the journal’s growth and transition to an international journal of e-government and information and telecommunications policy.” Assistant Professor Paul Jaeger serves on the journal’s editorial board.
