iSchool Doctoral Student, Sheri Massey, Awarded at ALISESheri being presented her award at ALISE.iSchool Doctoral student, Sheri Massey, was awarded the ALISE/Jean Tague Sutcliffe Doctoral Student Research Poster Competition at the 2009 ALIS Conference in Denver Colorado.

Her poster entitled “Digital libraries in schools: The best practices of nationally certified school library media specialists,”  examines ten National Board-certified K-12 SLMSs from public school districts in the College Park, Maryland, area. What she found was that, despite extensive literature on classroom teachers' technology use, few researchers have explored how school library media specialists (SLMSs) use technology. Fewer have examined how SLMSs use digital information resources to support teaching and learning. This study investigates the technology integration behaviors of SLMSs who have voluntarily obtained national certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) in addition to local certification. The goal of the research was to identify skills and techniques that NBPTS-certified SLMSs have in common when using digital libraries and other networked information resources to support the school curriculum.
