Grand Opening of iSchool New Research Facility

The College of Information Studies, Maryland's iSchool, announces the grand opening of its new research facility. This state-of-the-art facility will be a hub for the college's students and faculty to conduct research, engage in group projects and study individually. Maryland's iSchool enables students and faculty to create new ways for people to connect with information that will transform society. Maryland's iSchool is transforming itself as well, from a small college with a strong foundation in library and information studies programs to a fast-growing and groundbreaking center of expertise that will help people manage the information explosion from childhood to adulthood. Maryland's iSchool belongs to a national consortium of iSchools, which are interested in the relationship between information, technology, and people and committed to learning and understanding the role of information in human endeavors. The iSchools believe that expertise in all forms of information is required for progress in science, business, education, and culture andmust include understanding of the uses and users of information, as well as information technologies and their applications. The grand opening will be held on Wednesday, February 20, 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. in Hornbake Library, South Wing, second floor. Students and faculty will present their research in the form of talks and posters beginning at 2 p.m. Provost Nariman Farvardin and iSchool dean Jennifer Preece will welcome guests and preside over the ribbon cutting ceremony.
