Maryland’s iSchool is pleased to announce it will offer a Study Abroad course in Munich, Germany from July 19-August 9, 2009. The course will be listed as /LBSC708S – Germany: International Opportunities in Information Studies./
The course will enable students to travel to Munich, Germany to study at the International Youth Library (IYL), which houses the largest collection of international children’s literature in the world. During their time at the Library, students will gain an understanding of the resources and services available at the IYL, and they will have the opportunity to conduct independent research or work collaboratively with IYL staff members to complete a project that will support the Library’s mission and operations.
Dr. Ann Carlson Weeks, Professor of the Practice and Coordinator of the School Library Media specialization at the iSchool, will be the instructor for the course. Dr. Weeks has had extensive international consulting and speaking experience and has led People to People delegations to China, South Africa, Cuba, Poland, and Russia. She was a Research Fellow at the International Youth Library in 2005.
This course is open to students in the College of Information Studies, graduates of the program, students from other library and information schools, and individuals interested in international children’s literature. German language skills are welcomed, but not required. The class size is limited and registration will open December 1, 2008.
