History and Library Science Dual-Degree Program (HiLS)
The History and Library Science (HiLS) dual-degree program offers students a unique educational experience combining historical scholarship with the theory and practice of library science. Students must be formally admitted to both the iSchool and the History graduate programs in order to be admitted to the HiLS program. The program requires 54 credit hours (a minimum of 24 hours from each program). The iSchool and History advisors assist in the selection of courses from each program that are suitable for the student's goals, monitor student progress, and coordinate program requirements. Additional information about the program including course requirements and course offerings can be found on both the iSchool website and the Department of History website. Students in the HiLS program may elect to pursue a specialization within their MLS coursework. Both the MLS program and the History Department offer a thesis option.
